GENERAL

Lucia has undergone an extensive restoration, which was completed in Dec 2002. Included in the works is all new mahogany planking below the water, fastened with silicone bronze screws, the replacement of the majority of frames and sistering of all frames below the water. The lower stem has also been replaced. The original deck is Port Orford cedar in good condition, and is covered with a new 3/8” plywood and epoxy laminate. The covering board, toerail and caprail were replaced, as well as the bowsprit.New hatches were constructed to original drawings. The mainmast and main boom are new. The wiring, electrics, electronics, batteries, as well as the plumbing, and water tanks, all fittings and fixtures were replaced. The Main Engine, gearbox, shaft and prop were renewed as well.

The Mainsail and no. 1 Yankee Jib were new in 2002, No.2 working jib new in 2004 and Staysail new in 2003. The mizzen is new in 2005 as well as a 150% roller furling genoa and 150% balloon jib. Other sails include a Reacher jib, Asymmetric Spinnaker, Mizzen Staysail, Mizzen spinnaker, Storm jib, Storm Trysail, and Mizzen Storm Trysail of unknown age but in good condition.

Lucia A is a powerful easily driven yacht that has proven herself in the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta with a 1st overall in 2003 and second best total corrected time in 2004. 3rd in Sardinia and 6th in Cannes and St Tropez in 2005. She drives easily upwind, and reaches speeds of 12 kts on a reach with mizzen staysail, and reacher in strong winds. She has flush decks forward, and a small house aft, with a comfortable cockpit well aft.

Her rig is yawl with a 4 ft Oregon pine bowsprit, with a new (2003) greenheart Samson post, Harken roller furling on both jib and staysail, Aluminum mainmast, and boom, Aluminum mizzen mast and boom. Wire to rope running backstays led to 2 Lewmar winches. The cockpit has 2 Barient Primary winches, 2 Andersen Secondary winches, 1 Lewmar mainsheet winch, 4 winches on the mizzen and 5 winches on the mainmast all manual. The standing rigging is 1x19 stainless steel wire with Stalock terminals all new in 2002.

Anchoring is done with a 65 lb CQR with 300 ft of ½” BBB chain led over a Maxwell 3500 windlass. There is also a 25lb Danforth kedge anchor with rope.

Powered with a new (2002) Perkins Sabre 115 hp diesel, Hurst gearbox, and 3 blade Maxprop. Electrics are provided by a 24V house bank with four 8D gel batteries new in 2002, and Heart 2000 W 220V 50 Hz Inverter/Charger. A 4KW 220Vac 50Hz Northern Lights Generator installed in 2003. 12V Start batteries, and a 12V windlass battery. The main engine can charge the house bank with a 24v 90A alternator.

The Galley is new and has a 2 burner Force 10 stove with broiler/oven and a combination microwave/convection oven with grill, supplied by 2 10lb aluminum LPG bottles on deck and has a double deep sink leading to a sump tank. The Fridge and Freezer are chilled with a 220Vac compressor, and hot water provided by a 220V stainless steel hot water heater. The heads are Wilcox Skipper led to Raritan Lectrasan Marine Sanitation units.

A custom watermaker with 2 membranes (new 2003) can supply 30g/hour fresh water.

Four Bilge pumps, 2 sump Tank pumps, 1 water pressure pump and a deck wash pump all 24V provide water service and removal, and there is a 12V fuel transfer pump.

Electronics include, Clarion CD player with inside and cockpit speakers along with a sub woofer. B & G instrumentation, with a Hydraulic autopilot attached to the quadrant separate from the Edson cable steering. Furuno colour GPS/Radar/Chart plotter, Icom M502 VHF, Iridium Satellite telephone, Newmar 24V to 12V converter.

The Avon semi rigid Inflatable dinghy has a Yamaha 15 HP outboard, and is towed.


ACCOMMODATION

The accommodation is off white painted bulkheads, with varnished mahogany trim. Starting forward is the chain locker which is accessed through the forward cabin which has a upper/lower V berth with sail storage, hanging locker, drawers below and is ventilated with a large sliding fore hatch and wind scoop. The galley is fore and aft on starboard with a paneled ceiling with Mahogany trim. The sinks are forward followed by the stove and then counter top with freezer built in. There are storage lockers forward, above and outboard, with the fridge aft. Ventilated with an opening hatch aft and a butterfly hatch over the forward end of the galley and over the head/shower on the port side with a pull out sink, and large storage locker. The port cabin is accessed through a door at the aft end of the galley and has a double berth with two drawers and a hanging locker. This cabin has a paneled ceiling and opening hatch for ventilation.

The full width saloon has exposed painted deck beams with mahogany trim and a large butterfly hatch for light and ventilation. The table and settee are on port with a pilot berth outboard, and a settee with lockers on starboard. The floors are varnished Cherry throughout. Under the raised cabin with 7 opening port lights is the chart table on starboard with the companionway and wet hanging locker aft. The spacious aft head/shower to port is accessed from the companionway or the aft cabin.

The Aft Cabin has a double berth on starboard and a single berth on port with a hanging locker. Paneled ceiling with a skylight, which can open forward or aft give ample light and ventilation. The engine is accessed with a hinged mahogany box and has a seat and storage to port. Under the starboard berth are sail storage and two drawers, and two storage bins under the port berth.

The cockpit has a fold down table, which will seat 4 persons for outdoor dining.


SUMMARY

Lucia A is a sound and fast passage maker, which has been highly maintained by professional crew since her re-launch in December 2002.

Lucia A is a sound and fast passage maker, which has been highly maintained by professional crew since her re-launch in December 2002. During the winter of 2005/6 more work was done to Lucia by Classic Works, including some structural work to the deadwood, further fairing of the topsides, upgrading the interior, fitting new custom bronze fittings to the spars, and painting the aluminium masts with ‘trompe oeil’ effect to look like wood.
